Choir Visit to Bordeaux

In September 2013 Tabernacl Choir visited Bordeaux as representatives of Bridgend town's celebration of 20 years of town-twinning with Villenave d'Ornon in Bordeaux. The visit was a truly memorable occasion and exceeded all expectations. The generosity and meticulous planning by the French ensured a smooth, effortless and very happy visit for our choir. The official delegation from Bridgend included the Mayor, Haydn Morgan and his escort and members of the twinning committee.

On the day of arrival we were greeted by our French counterparts - their Mayor, town twinning representatives and members of Chorale du Lac - at an official ceremony at the 'Bridgend' roundabout in Villenave with its half bridge, waterfall and inaugural plaque.

Highlights of the visit included visits to the beautiful city of Bordeaux, the famous wine-tasting village of St. Emilion and a memorable boat trip around the picturesque Bay of Arcachon.

The choir performed on the Friday evening of the visit in a joint concert with Chorale du Lac. Tabernacl's varied programme of both classical and 'light' items which included spirituals and Welsh hymns - and one French piece of course! - was applauded with great enthusiasm by the 200-strong audience.

The choir looks forward to entertaining Chorale du Lac for a second time in June 2014 and hopes to repay the fantastic hospitality received during our September visit.
